What a message costs

A message to the table is one question answered by every member, their replies to each other, and sometimes a Chair summary. On the table a new room starts with, a message costs about $0.12. Across all rooms, half of all messages cost between $0.05 and $0.22; about one in ten, usually a long document or a big table, costs more than $0.40.

How it is charged

  • Each message is charged for the model turns it sets off. You see every charge in your usage.
  • Your balance is the cap. At zero the room pauses and offers a top-up; nothing is ever charged to your card afterwards.
  • Every room also has a spend cap of its own.
  • With your own keys, the members' answers are billed by your provider at its price.

Questions

How much does Bordet cost?+

Bordet has no subscription. You can try it free, a free account comes with $1.50 of credit, and after that you buy prepaid credits in packs of $5, $20 or $50, or use your own API keys. A message to the table a new room starts with costs about $0.12; across all rooms, half of all messages cost between $0.05 and $0.22.

Is Bordet free?+

Trying it is. You can ask the table up to 5 questions without an account, and a free account adds $1.50 of credit, roughly 12 messages to the starting table. Using your own API keys is free while Bordet is in beta.

Why does a message cost money at all?+

Every message is answered by several AI models from different labs, and each of those answers has a cost. Credits cover it. With your own keys, the providers bill you directly instead.

How are credits charged?+

Per message, by what it uses. One message to the whole table usually sets off several turns: each member's answer, their replies to each other, sometimes a Chair summary, and a small memory update. You see the cost in your usage as it happens.

What happens when my credits run out?+

The room pauses and offers a one-tap top-up. Nothing is charged automatically, and there is never a bill after the fact: your balance is the limit.

Can I use my own API keys?+

Yes. Add keys for Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or xAI in your profile. A room whose members are all covered by your keys bills them to your keys, at the provider's price. Web search and image generation in that room still use credits.

Do credits expire? Can I get a refund?+

Credits stay on your account for as long as you keep it. In the UK and EU you can cancel a purchase within 14 days for a refund of the credits you have not used; see the Terms for the details.
